Message From Principal Dear Totem Falls Parents/Guardians: Totem Falls is a great school with a dedicated staff, supportive parents and wonderful kids. We have a well maintained facility with spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains. While we are fortunate in many ways, our healthy and effective volunteer program is among our greatest strengths. We have over 300 registered volunteers here at Totem Falls. While not all volunteers are here on a regular basis, many folks are here providing consistent support to our staff and students. Countless hours are spent mentoring, working with small groups of children, providing clerical support, chaperoning field trips, working on bulletin boards, taking pictures, organizing PTO events, creating hallway displays….and on and on. In many cases, the responsibilities assumed by volunteers allow our teachers to focus more time and energy on the quality instruction our students need and deserve. An added benefit to having parent volunteers in the school on a regular basis is the sense of community that we build. Children enjoy and feel good about having their moms and dads take an active part in their school life. Relationships between parents and staff develop in such a way that families feel connected to our school. This is, after all, your community school. On Thursday, June 5th, we will be honoring all of our volunteers. They are invited to join us on that day for a special appreciation luncheon, in the gym, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Totem Falls staff joins me in thanking all of our volunteers for your valuable time and effort in serving our school. We are lucky to have you because Totem Falls volunteers are the best! Sincerely,
Mike Cosgrove, Principal
Family Handbook for 2007-'08 School Year Click on the link below find valuable information in this updated version to this year's Family Handbook.
07-08 Family Handbook - Totem Falls Elementary School Colors and Mascot The students and staff chose the school colors and school mascot our first year. The school colors are the Native American colors of red, white, and black; and the school mascot is "The Trickster", the fun-loving bird from the Northwest Coastal Native American folklore, also known as the Raven. Important Reminder Concerning Personal Items Please do not bring personal belongings such as game boys, trading cards, walkmans and other items of value to school. These things can cause classroom and playground disruptions. As well, our school is not responsible if they get lost. Please keep these items at home for enjoyment. Attendance Requirements Washington State Law requires all parents to have their children enrolled and attending school full time in the district they reside. If your child is absent from school for any reason, please call the school office at (360) 563-4750 on the morning of the absence or tardy. You may leave a message 24 hours a day on our voice mail. It is important we hear from you each morning of every absence or tardy. If we don't hear from you, due to state truancy laws and because we care about your children, we are obligated to call you. Students who arrive late or leave early during a school day are required to be signed in/out by their parents in the office. Thank you for your cooperation! Appropriate Attire
The cold, wet weather is gradually starting to hit us. On rainy, cold days, our students usually go outside for recess. Make sure that your child is properly dressed for the weather with a coat and sturdy tennis shoes or comparable shoes or boots. Hats and gloves are not a bad idea! In unforeseen circumstances, such as earthquakes, we may be forced to move all students outside. We encourage you to always be prepared by sending your child with proper cold weather attire, even on days that seem to be mild. In addition, encourage your child to "stay as dry as possible" at recess, avoiding mud puddles, slippery hills, etc. Soggy clothes are not very comfortable to wear!!! Tennis shoes are highly recommended on a daily basis! Thank you for dressing your children appropriately!

News of the Month New School Supply Lists for '08-'09 School Year! Click on the following links to find out what the school supplies are for the upcoming school year. 1st - 6th Grade School Supplies School Library To Be Open This Summer! We are excited to announce that our Totem Falls Elementary library will be open during the summer to our students and their families for book check out and AR quizzing. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to keep up your reading skills, add to your AR quiz totals, and get a head start on the Sasquatch Reading Challenge for the upcoming year. Many high demand books should be easier to access during the more relaxed summer reading season. Our schedule starts on Wednesday July 2nd, and runs each Wednesday through August 20th. We will be open from 9:00am –12:00 noon. Our rules & expectations will be the same during the summer as they are during the year. Please be productive and respectful and use this time for reading, quizzing and check-out. We please ask that students 4th grade and below come accompanied by a parent. 5th grade and above may come unaccompanied as long as they follow our library expectations. We hope to see you there! 2008-2009 Student Enrollment Verification As in past years, we would like to get an accurate enrollment count well before we begin out next school year. If your child will not be attending Totem Falls next year, please notify the office as soon as possible. This does not apply to this year’s 6th Grade students, as we are already aware that they will be moving on to Middle School. To further solidify our enrollment count, we will contact each family by email or phone in early to late August to verify attendance. This will help prepare to adequately welcome back our students. Visitors & Volunteers Please Check in at the Office We welcome all visitors to Totem Falls. To ensure safety and proper security for our children, we ask that ALL visitors sign in at the office and wear a visitor or volunteer tag. This applies to visits anywhere on school grounds, including the playground. Visits to the classroom should be pre-arranged with the appropriate teacher(s). All volunteers need to complete a WSP background check prior to volunteering in any capacity. AR Quiz Lists You can now visit our library webpage to browse our AR Quiz List. There are three convenient ways to search – by Reading Level; by Title; and by Author. We are so glad to finally have these lists available to you online. Please let us know if you have any AR questions! New Raven Review Format! The Raven Review is using a new format that may require that you have the Adobe Reader installed on your desktop in order to view this new document type.
